All my ranting came back ...Thanks for the comments.
All my ranting came back to bite me today as I forgot to order goats cheese from the supplier last night. So I had to make a trip to Waitrose to clear their shelves of all available stocks(checkout lady looked at me in disbelief when I told her I was partial to it). This obviously resulted in various unnecessary luxury purchases...
*Hangs head in shame*Northern Snippethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07207173438875166390noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5643498138460820479.post-61393358466829494232010-09-02T08:45:11.068-07:002010-09-02T08:45:11.068-07:00Have always been a once a week shopper, and know I...Have always been a once a week shopper, and know I was always wasting so much, spoiled and thrown out. Have recently retired and have that extra time to shop, and shop daily. Now I think of what I am making on a daily basis instead of weekly. And save so much! Not just money either, we aren't throwing out, because we don't have it sitting it is getting eaten daily. My cupboards might look a bit bare but I think it is better than the waste. You would think we were away on holidays when it comes time to put out the trash, very little goes to the curb. I buy more fresh produce, so I think we are eating way better and meat is bought daily and only the quantity needed for that days meals.
I now go to the grocers with a plan of today's meals and that is what I walk out with.
It works! Very pleased with the outcome and the savings.
thanks for your post today was a very good read!Medifast Couponshttp://www.medifastcouponsfor2010.org/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5643498138460820479.post-73674165249895751292010-09-01T13:51:48.000-07:002010-09-01T13:51:48.000-07:00I saw that show too. I hope that TV show will have some kind of impact.
I try hard not to throw food away, but I have to admit, I am guilty of over buying sometimes.
*kisses* HHHeavenly Housewifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14283933713343453486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5643498138460820479.post-54416749264841950402010-09-01T02:56:58.343-07:002010-09-01T02:56:58.343-07:00"The introduction of Use by/Best before dates..."The introduction of Use by/Best before dates has also contributed massively to waste....."I so agree with this and always have done. Use your senses- feel it touch it smell it even just look at it and you can tell whether a food item is safe to eat. I rarely follow
"Manufacturers"guidelines. I shop here daily in Portugal from the market, butcher, fish man.
Even our local supermarket here in the village has its own farm just outside the village and whenever appropriate the fresh produce is flagged up as `propria`meaning our own home grown produce. They even rear some of their own meat and butcher it to your spec, at the counter.I guess we are very lucky to have this in a rapidly changing world. As you so rightly say Its more about education.o cozinheiro este algarvehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17611828658246967972noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5643498138460820479.post-32703642678026829332010-09-01T01:19:12.132-07:002010-09-01T01:19:12.132-07:00Loved this post!

I cannot NOT visit Tescos when I've got an opportunity. I promose to try to be good!

Even when I was at secondary school, home ec (cooking) was not really regarded as important. We did it for a few weeks, but it was never anything very engaging. Just something to be 'got through'.

My mother is an excellent cook and painstakingly made everything (eg for a curry or a chinese dish) from scratch because back in the 70s, there weren't the jar resources that we take for granted these days.

Yep - let's teach them how to cook and bake.

But *in small pathetic voice* can someone show me first please?....

Ali xxxxAlison Crosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06565962059926865121noreply@blogger.com
